How it works

Edit for the big four

Sentence boundaries, subject-verb agreement, consistent tense, and clear pronouns. These cost more than a misspelled word.

Read the first and last sentence of each paragraph

If those sentences alone tell your argument, the structure is sound.

Worked examples

A five-minute edit pass.
1. Scan for comma splices.
2. Check every verb near a long subject.
3. Confirm the conclusion restates the thesis.

Words to know

Revision: Changing content and organization, not just fixing typos.

Test-day tips

• Do not rewrite whole paragraphs in the last five minutes — repair, do not rebuild.
